Fishing cobles- Robby Beck, Staithes
Legend has it that the fishing boats in this area of the North East of England are based on the same template as Viking Longships.
The Clinker built construction of these boats means they are perfectly adapted to erratic, rolling North Sea, the different colours of each boat make identification easier at a distance.

The sketches of cobbles at Staithes are brilliant, it is so hard to get the right lines for the wooden sides, they are so made to deflect the waves splashing up. The Beck is called Roxby Beck, it rises through The hamlet of Roxby further inland, not far from Scaling Dam On the main Middlesbrough to Whitby road.
