Banksy, the elusive British street artist is in New York this week, where amongst other things he hired a street vendor and set up a stall in Central Park selling his original artworks for only $60’00 each. Apparently only a few people bought the works thinking it to be a hoax. What I loved even more was the slaughterhouse delivery truck traveling the Meatpacking district, full of cute, stuffed, squeaking animals. Have a look at the video here. I love Banksy’s work which compels us to confront the hypocrisies and cruelties of modern society, while at the same time making us smile. It is all credit to him, that in our celebrity obsessed culture he still chooses to remain anonymous. He must be the most famous unknown person.
Loved it! I’ll rebblog it, hope it’s fine with you.
no hay problema….I remember seeing Banksy’s work many years ago when I lived in London, it would cheer up my day on the bus to work and have loved t ever since..
Reblogged this on and commented:
Eu nunca re-bloguei nenhum post, mas este merece. É sobre o Banksy em Nova York, e o caminhão cheio de animais fofinhos de pelúcia supostamente a caminho do matadouro.
A fonte é um outro artista que sigo já há algum tempo, o qual faz uns desenhos e pinturas maravilhosos.
That’s great, then his art has accomplished a lot, I suppose. 🙂
Just read this on the Guardian, and it reminded me of you:

Thanks.:) you’re right, I like that he’s “the genius of the obvious”. It looks so easy and simple once he’s done it but I think it’s a little cleverer than that as his subjects and where he points the funny finger are very astute.
These images are telling! I used to breed animals for food, but came the day when I suddenly saw their consciousness and changed. I’ve not touched meat for 25 years. I’m glad I found my way here.
Thank you for visiting my page and taking the time to let me know how you liked ‘Tom Fleck’.

Thanks Harry and for stopping by the blog.
and I can’t wait for the next novel…I couldn’t put Tom Fleck down…
I keep returning to this – so I’ve shared it on FB.
Thanks Harry, I’m not on FB (something of the Luddite in me!) so I much appreciate it. I also think that particular work is ingenious too how by replacing real animals with soft toys it is more poignant and a harder message….
He he, love it. Love Banksy and his work. Thanks for posting this.
yeh he’s verging on genius….
That truck filled with stuffed animals is a cool statement-very funny too ! Hobo hippie
