I’ve added two new links to the blog
The first is Esopus Magazine which is very cool alternative Art magazine of contemporary cultural which I came across while watching The film Marwencol.
The second is Marwencol itself which featured in an edition of Esopus and is a truly fascinating documentary film by Jeff Malmberg, based on the surreal-real life of Mark Hogancamp. Mark’s self prescribed therapy following a severe beating resulting in brain damage and a coma, was to build his own miniature World War II-era town, (Marwencol), in his backyard. Mark uses Action figures and Barbies to create scenarios and stories which have helped him recover his hand-eye coordination and deal with the deep psychic wounds of the initial attack. Each character in the world of Marwencol is based on a real life person. Each with their own back story and personality. In his role playing he explains how he and the other characters in Marwencol are able to transform themselves into anything they would never dare to be in the real world.
